In 1967, the fifth CUNY College to open was York College with an entering class of 371 students in a temporary location. In 1986 students took their first classes in the New Academic Core in Jamaica Queens. Currently York serves more than 8,000 students with origins from across the world. It boasts competitive science/medical focused academic tracks such as Nursing and Pharmaceutical Science. STEM RA students have the opportunity to do immersive hands-on research in research content areas that include, but are not limited to nursing, medical psychology, molecular biology and engineering.
